Fresh in the Ultra running world, or really in the running world in general, I have been running since September 2019. Since then I have completed countless virtual events, 2 Spartan races, a trail half marathon, then 2 trail marathon. Fueled by the excitement of doing hard stuff, and seeing others reach their potential, I now move to the event planning world. I have been involved in event management for years, and now I get to bring my love of endurance events, and planning together into this.
Never before held in Northern Victoria, 2022 saw the first ever backyard ultra event run in Shepparton. A small number of runners came together to make local history. And that they did, with the winner completing 31 'yards'.
Then back in 2023, runners from across eastern Australia and New Zealand rocked Shepparton for a massive event with 76 runners starting, and a a winning time of 34 'yards'.
A backyard ultra is an endurance event like no other. You run 6.7km, you rest, you run again. Over, and over, and over again until you believe you cannot go any further. Then you quit.
But it doesn't end there. The event keeps going until just one runner steps up to the finish line. They seal the deal with one final 'yard', then its over.
There is no second place, you finish, or you DNF.
Simple right?
At North-Vic Backyard Ultras, our mission is simple. To encourage people to push themselves to find their own potential, and push their limits. The beauty of a backyard ultra is you don't immediately have to be fit enough to run 50km. Joining in the event and pushing out 5 loops, or pushing yourself to do 7, or going out there to go for as long as you humanly can, its totally up to you. Our mission is to facilitate that. To encourage everyone to have a go, and see what they're made of.
Most of all, we want to see people get active, get moving, and realise their potential. We know that physical acivity benefits physical health, but it also increases the quality of your mental health, its a win-win.
So come join us, for a few loops, for a whole day, for 2 days, or just as a spectator, everyone is welcome.
